Villagers stopped to demolish Jungle Jack

Jungle Jack - Backpackers Lodge

200 Bundu Tuhan villagers had been stopped by the police from destroying the Jungle Jack backpackers lodge because it had been placed illegally on their native land since three years ago. They first gathered at the Tenompok junction before going to the Jungle Jack area. Dominic Ganie, the JKKK Chairman of Kg Sokid Bundu Tuhan said, they have warned the owner to get out from the premises by giving him the written orders but he just ignored about it. The owner had been operating this lodge illegally without any license and the electricity connection also were applied illegally by using a land grant that belongs to different individuals who owns a plot near the area but not at the exact location.

Jungle Jack owner in trouble

Meanwhile, Joseph Sangau Sariman who is Ranau Native Chief stated three reasons why Jungle Jack should have been evacuate as soon as possible.
Firtsly, the place where the owner set up his Jungle Jack is actually an area called Pampang Tinompok which is where the Taru or border stone had been placed.
Secondly, this heritage land is also a part of the Guris which acts as invisible boundary to protect the Bundu Tuhan from being entered by evil spirits.
Thirdly, there is a ritual called ‘Mongimuhau’ which cleansed the whole Bundu Tuhan from any evil spirit. The owner was not coming during the gathering for giving any statements to defend himself. Finally, Bundu Tuhan Consensus Meeting Chairman Johnny Ghani said in mid-2013, an individual placed several units of shipping containers at the said location and told villagers that he would soon remove all the containers.
