Wildlife and Resource Survey at Danum Valley
The Danum Valley Wildlife and Resource Survey 2016, a two-week activity which started last August 15, was conducted within the Danum Valley Conservation Area (DVCA), classified by the Sabah State Government in 1995 as a Class I (Protection) Forest Reserve. It documented and photographed recognizable and uncommon mammals, birds and flora species, specifically begonias, and will be forwarded to experts for proper identification and authentication. Aside from these, there were scenic spots ideal for potential ecotourism development.
130 Researchers in Danum Valley
Yayasan Sabah director Datuk Sapawi Bin Haji Ahmad said that 130 researchers from government and non-governmental organizations and the academe participated in the survey. At the end of the two-week activity, most of the researchers have insect bites on their faces, arms and legs, consequences of observations conducted day and night.
It was during the survey that Mt Tribulation and Mt Nicola were first explored. Alim Buin of Sabah Parks led the team assigned to Mt Tribulation and Dr Reuben Nilus of Sabah Forestry Department with five other team members were assigned to Mt Nicola.
