Malaysia Day organizing committee deputy secretary Mariam Omar Matusin, who is also the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment deputy permanent secretary, said that the event will start as scheduled. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will be officiating the event on September 16.
Tawau, Semporna Eyed as Seafood Hub
Parti Warisan Sabah is eyeing Semporna as a tourism paradise with Tawau as a seafood hub in the east coast area. The party’s Vice President, Junz Wong, said that it is the idea of its President Datuk Shafie Apdal to develop the east coast by maximizing its potential and utilizing its natural resources.
There are abundant seafood products in these areas and it will not be necessary for the fishermen and fish farmers to go to Kota Kinabalu to deliver their catch. A hub for processing and export of seafood products will be put up for quality control prior to exportation. This will be a feasible project since Tawau is strategically located near Kalimantan and the Celebes Sea.
