The district officer in Penampang, Luvita Koisun wanted to introduce Penampang to visitor who come to visit Sabah as Penampang is quite near to the city centre of Kota Kinabalu. Penampang located few minutes away from the city center and international airport. Other than Kota Kinabalu, Penampang also has beautiful nature as most part of Penampang still covered with forest. She still wants it to be preserve and protecting the environment. As the early stage, the night market will be built to make Penampang a more interesting place for local and foreigners who come to visit Penampang. Luvita said even though this is still in the planning process, it will eventually help Penampang to become an interesting place for tourists to explore. It also will increase local economy and this quiet place will become friendly to locals and even foreigners. Last month the District Office had discussed with Penampang Tourism Council to promote a collaboration between local tourism players, the private sectors and related parties in order to process the district’s tourism agenda quickly.

Other than that, the Thursday’s familiarization tour had been organized together by the council and the BIMP-EAGA Business Council Penampang led by its Chairman Carl Moosom and hosted by JBorneo Native Village to introduce to the local tour agents what the district has to offer to the visitor. All of them were brought to the interesting places such as the Donggongon Tamu, Datuk Peter Mojuntin’s statue, Pogunon community museum, the historic St Michael’s church and JBorneo Native Village in Lok Kawi. This effort to market Penampang as place that tourists should come and explore also have been participated by representatives from the Sabah Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Satta), Sabah Tourism Board and Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI). Instead of that, they also have their five year mission project which is to clean up the Moyog River so that it is clean back and the community can safely drink the water straight from the river. Livita also aimed to plant more trees from Upper Moyog down to Donggongon and these two projects will start in August this year. Chairman of Airworld Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd said they are discussing a deal to use two chartered aircrafts that will fly tourists from China and they expect the first flights to be end of this year.
