Golf in Kota Kinabalu & Sabah
There was a time when the entire Sabah had only about 4 or 5 golf courses but for a not-so-big place like this, even this number is quite large. And now there are many more golf courses in and around the city of KK itself. These range from those located amidst most panoramic regions to the most strenuous topography.
Some of them are even owned by supremely luxurious resorts to add to their convenience and leisure factor. Therefore, even the most voracious golfers also have a good chance of indulging in their favorite activity if they are on a vacation or a business trip to KK. The most sought-after golf-courses the city has are:
Mount Kinabalu Golf Club
The first golf club that the city came up with as early as in the year 1933, Kinabalu Golf Club is spread across an area of 40 acres. Situated at an elevation of 1500 meters above the sea level, the 18-hole club has majestic Mount Kinabalu in its backdrop which upgrades the golfing experience here to another level. Entry of visitors is permitted from Tuesday to Friday. Its steep slope and windy weather make playing here a challenge.
Sutera Harbour Golf and Country Club
The lavish 27-hole golf course is a part of Sutera Harbour Resort and was designed by Graham Marsh. Located in the heart of the city, this golf course has hosted several international tournaments. Inside its premises is a heritage course, a lake course and a garden course. Other amenities here include buggy-rental, locker rooms, Pro-shop, driving range, bunker practice and the like.
Dalit Bay Golf and Country Club
A drive of 40 minutes will take golfing enthusiasts to this distinguished 18-holes golf course.
A part of the lavish and famed Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort, the picturesque area of this club makes it a place worth a visit by even non-golfers. Other facilities at the clubhouse are putting green, chipping and bunker practice, pro-shop, changing rooms, driving range and a restaurant.
Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai
Forming a crucial segment of Nexus Karambunai Resort is the Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai and is at half-an-hour drive from KK. The ambience in which this golf course is set is supremely mesmerizing. At its one end are low hills and at the other end is a sandy beach. Accredited with several awards too, the terrain of Nexus Resort is amiable as well as quite challenging for golfers. A clubhouse with golfers terrace, cocktail lounge, locker rooms, driving range and pro-shop are some of the many conveniences available here.
Sabah Golf and Country Club
Upheld as the one of the toughest courses of entire Asia, Sabah Golf and Country Club is an 18-hole club designed by Robert Muir and Grave.
Just a 10 minutes drive is what is required to reach this challenging golf course.
