Borneo Highlands Eco Challenge
Eco-Tourism in Heart of Borneo Highlands Eco Challenge II
Heart of Borneo Highlands Eco Challenge II, an event organized by Alliance of Indigenous Peoples of the Highlands of Borneo (Formadat), is slated on July 20-29, 2017. John Tarawe, event director and Formadat Sarawak deputy chairman, said that eco-tourism has great potential in the highlands because the forest is still untouched and remnants of the culture of its ancestors can be found in various historical sites. In addition, Formadat aims to educate the participants not only on history and culture but also on environmental conservation which will mainly benefit the locals.
Everybody can participate in the Borneo Highland Eco Challenge II
Interested participants can choose from 10 trails of varying lengths at a minimum of RM1,500 per participant. Experienced trekkers can choose longer trails and camp in the forest. Shorter and less tedious trails lead to villages where one can interact with the people and take in the scenery. There will be jungle walks, four-wheel drive adventures, river rides across the old world Borneon forest, reliving what had been the migratory route of the ancestors of the highland people thousands of years ago.
The first Eco-Challenge was last year, an eight-day journey from Ba Kelalan to Bario on foot.
