Borneo Eco Film Festival – BEFF
The Borneo Eco Film Festival 2016 (BEFF) will have its sixth annual festival in October with activities lined up for this year’s environmental cinema with free admission.
Screening of 14 award-winning productions of international and local filmmakers will be on October 8 and 9 at the Event Hall of the Suria Sabah and on Publika Fringe Screenings on selected partner venues on October 3 – 5. These films were chosen based on their message and its application to the lives of the people of Sabah. One such film is Bikes VS Cars, telling of the advantages of bicycles and something which is very timely for the people of Kota Kinabalu, many of whom are taking to the streets on two-wheeled transportation.
Borneo Eco Film Festival conducts Outreach Programm
There is also the Suara Community Filmmaking Programme wherein some 40 participants from Sabah communities will be taught how to maximize the use of film as a medium to communicate their causes, opinions or stories. Their outputs will also have the chance to be screened on October 9.
This year’s festival will be the first time for the Youth Outreach Programme where the BEFF team will visit selected schools to conduct talks on the environment and filmmaking. This will go on for several weeks until September 30 and there will be a Snapchat story competition among students as a culminating activity with the theme “Sun, Sea and Sand”. It will also be during the BEFF that the winners will be announced.
Local film maker Andy Chia will give a talk about Drone Filming on October 9 noontime.
